Meet our new girl! She is beautiful! She was born this morning around 11:45. It wasn’t a textbook birth, but mom and baby are doing great.
Julia noticed this morning that Feline was walking around the pasture quite a bit and was swollen in the rear end. Fairly quickly a leg showed and then a nose. Something was a little off. One of the legs was twisted and Julia was able to get it where it should be but not all was right. She called our Vet, Dr. Pete Plescia, and he was able to get down here in about 15 minutes. Dr. Pete had to inject a lot of lube and had to go in and turn the baby, but was able to get it all done quickly and perfectly, and the baby was born not to long after he got here.
As you can see the cria is a beautiful white. She is all white, and I can’t see any other color on her at all. She was up within about 15 minutes and trying to nurse! Just what we wanted to see. She weighs around 25 pounds!! She’s a BIG one!!
I came home this afternoon early so Julia could run to a meeting at church. I sat in the pasture with cria and momma for a while just enjoying watching them eat and sleep.
Tonight we put a cria coat on the baby, and baby and momma are closed in the barn for the night.
Now time to think of a name!! We’ve thought about Silk Creek’s Prima since she is the first cria born here on property. We’ve also thought about Silk Creek’s La Bella since her sire is El Bello. I’m leaning towards La Bella! What are your thoughts?
